Why see Player Kings?

On Tour

Don't miss this new play adapted and directed by Robert Icke. A reimagining of William Shakespeare's Henry VI Parts I and II that distills the two plays into one, catch David Semark as he steps centre stage as the Bard's work as Sir John Falstaff, friend of young Hal and partner in mischief.

After sustaining an injury from a fall during the west end run, Sir Ian McKellen will no longer appear in Player Kings.

Who is Falstaff?

A presence in three of Shakespeare's plays, Sir John Falstaff is depicted as a rotund, jolly presence for whom mischief comes easily. Be it leading the young prince astray in Henry VI, or wooing women with various scams, his schemes and outlook make him an audience favourite whenever he appears.

Powerful

Saw the production at Norwich and so glad I made the effort. Time flew by - not disappointed with McKellen replacement - energetic, roguish, manipulative yet whole hearted Prince Hal extraordinary - what a talent - will look him out in future ... Read more

Absolutely Brilliant

Wonderful and surprising production, emotionally draining but in a good way, certainly not too long as other reviews have complained about, creative sets wonderful acting all round,Sir Ian perfect for the sad/funny role of Falstaff,a very interesting slice of English history which is self contained and understandable,it's new daring and creative-just what the theatre needs breathing fresh air into Shakespeare without being pretentious or over complicated, would highly recommend ... Exhilarating

Toheeb Jimoh's Prince Harry is a mastery of space and time. His performance leaves the audience in a state of uncertainty, questioning whether he is a brutal thug or a brilliant rebel. Undoubtedly, he has earned his rightful place on the stage alongside Sir Ian, who is, as ever, captivating. This is a long ride without a doubt, but what an exhilarating journey it is! ... Read more
